its that time of year again

everyone is starting to ask for christmas lists

every year i find it harder to make decisions about what should go on it

i am torn between want 

and need

of course, i have a list a mile long of things i want

but do i really need them

as i get older

i find there are less and less things that i need

or thought i needed (which probably means i only really wanted them in the first place)

but maybe that means i am learning the difference

then there is the state of the economy to take into consideration

the factor of the environment

and sustainability

of adding things to the environment that may not be necessary

or adding to the general pollution caused by manufacturing needless things

and what do you get at christmas that actually makes you happy?

happy in the sense of 

well, happy.

toys, games, food, all those things are nice

but it is being around loved ones that is the real prize

christmas is just another excuse to get together

the real aim is to spend time with each other

not a contest of who can spend the most money

or travel the furthest distance

or buy the most presents

its those kinds of things that can ruin it for everybody else

but i think i am going off on a tangent here

christmas and christmas lists

want and need

thats what we were talking about

i am not totally decided on how i feel about christmas yet this year

it will be my second christmas away from my family

and last year wasnt very exciting i have to say

just generally, another day off from work

and a  day where james and i can be together since we both have the same day off for once

not that it isnt nice, dont get me wrong

but it doesnt hold the same meaning as it used to 

and i dont know how i feel about that.
