"Things are only impossible until they are not." - Jean-Luc Picard

a diy christmas

so now that i have my hate post out of the way
i can focus on talking about the things i do like about the christmas season

spending time with family and friends
gingerbread houses, and festive themed food in general
and the book the grinch who stole christmas

i used to like christmas music
but i think working in retail killed that one for me

seriously though
for this of us who aren't religious
who don't have any 'reason for the season'
i think you should think long and hard about why you celebrate christmas

and let's talk about kids, magic, and wonder
not sharing santa claus does not take away from the magic of christmas
you don't need stories about a fat man jumping down strangers chimneys
only giving gifts to those who he thinks have been 'good'

you can create magic within the season many other ways
most easily by spending quality time with your family
if you want to learn how to do that without being all commercial about it
i suggest reading a few books on hygge
but more to the point
just remember to appreciate the simple things that make you happy

+ a hot cup of tea
+ cosy blankets
+ baby snuggles
+ early morning sunlight through the window
+ quietness of the house to yourself
+ freshly folded laundry
